Souya-kaikyou Fuyu Geshiki

August 7, 2014

This is Hibiki’s song. The title references Souya Strait between Hokkaido and Sakhalin, north of present-day Japan. The astute will realize which part of Hibiki’s history this is about.

The waves rock her warrior’s body,
and alone she watches the horizon

Her friends spoke of the future with her, and now they’re gone
without having described the evening sun to her

In the empty grief we call loneliness
she fires blanks into the sky

Let her distant journey be a tribute to those who fell
She journeys where the land is colder yet than her heart

Her combat records never ended
Endless were her exploits on the sea

She thought she would
find eternal sleep

The smells of home
bring tears to her cheeks

The days of war
The beautiful ocean
There she is, the Ship Girl

A maiden stood on the shore
Alone she watched the horizon

She welcomed those who knew her early days with tears
Together they wept like little children

The greater good was calling
A tale of a thousand falling cherry blossoms

She thought her wish
had become hopeless

She wanted to never
let the warmth she’d found sink

The days of war
The beautiful ocean
There she is, the Ship Girl
